25-member Far-West talk team arrives

Kathmandu,
A 25-member talks team of Far-West region arrived capital on Friday, Hemanta Regmi, a member of talk team informed Republica. The team will hold talks with the government on Saturday. 

The strike called in far-west region entered 15th day on Friday. 

Govt-agitators talks fizzle out
The talks between the government and the agitating Joint Struggle Committee (JSC) has ended without reaching any agreement on Friday.

The committee includes the Chhetri Samaj, Brahman Samaj, Thakuri Samaj, Dashnami Samaj, Dalit Janajagaran Sewa Sangh, Bibedh Mukti Pragatishil Samaj and Khas Chhetri Ekata Samaj. 

Emerging from the meeting, Kumar Khadka, spokesperson for the committee, said the talks ‘failed’ after the government presented itself ‘irresponsibly’ during the meeting.

Khadka added they would determine their future strategy after holding discussion within the committee that has been launching protest against ethnicity-based federalism. 

On the contrary, Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who heads the government talks team, claimed the talks was ‘positive’ and that the government is serious about the agitators’ concerns.

9 held in capital during banda

Meanwhile, police have arrested nine persons while they were enforcing banda in the capital. Of those arrested, seven were apprehended from Kathmandu, while the rest from Lalitpur.

The strike enforcers have set a taxi on fire in Baneshwor for defying the banda. Two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons had burned the taxi (Ba 1 5101) near Apex College.
